True or False (T/F) - その 1

うそ・ほんと?

The most predominant Japanese food is SUSHI.

日本食と言えばお寿司!

The answer is...

False!  presented by Cliché Ninja

Don’t get me wrong. Japanese people looovvvveeee sushi. We just don’t eat it or make it as much as you think we do. Eating sushi in Japan is treated more like a special occasion. We go out for sushi more so than making sushi at home.

Why? Making sushi at home is pretty time consuming and it’s one of those dishes where it’s probably cheaper to eat out in the end.

That said, do I like sushi? Naw…I’m weird. I’m one of those rare Japanese whose genes refused to derive pleasure from eating raw fish.

I felt like an outcast due to this, but sushi is expensive..my parents were happy I didn’t like it.

Then what is the most predominant food in Japan?

Simply put, RICE.

We eat rice almost all the time. I start to get withdrawal symptoms when I don’t eat rice for 2 days. We usually eat rice with some other food, but regardless of what that food is, it will come with rice.
